Big is GOOD!!

Today we had a visit from Mitre 10 Mega's Ambassador, Levi! (The guy from the TV ads). He is a champion strongman and is huge! He told us all about his strongman career and how hard he has worked. He also told us that he eats 30 eggs, one kilo of chicken, one kilo of kumara, 600g of broccoli, four bananas and protein shakes all in one day! WOW!
After Levi spoke to us, he took Amanda from our room and Max from Room 11 outside and lifted them both up! They will probably be in the Advocate tomorrow, so keep an eye out.

Fruit Burgers

On Wednesday, we made twisty fruits! It was lots of fun. We decided that a better name for this healthy snack was Fruit Burgers, because that is what they looked like! Here are the photos...

We then had to write a recipe together for this delicious healthy snack. Here it is, in case you want to make these at home!

FRUIT BURGERS

You will need:

Red apple
Green apple
Orange
Nashi pear
Honey (in a squeeze bottle is best)
Chopping board
Sharp knife

What to do:

1. Slice the fruit.
2. Squeeze honey onto the fruit slices.
3. Stack the fruit slices on top of each other, starting with a bottom piece and finishing with a top piece.
4. Eat!

Yummy!

Fruits and Vegetables

We have started a new topic this week. We are learning about healthy eating and will be exploring food groups, trialling some delicious recipes and learning about procedural writing for the rest of the term.
This week we focussed on fruits and vegetables. Each member of Room 12 selected a fruit or a vegetable. They had to go home and find out a reason why it was healthy and good for us. They did a great job! Keep an eye out for our talking pastel pictures, which explain all the things we found out about our fruit and vegetables.
We will also be posting our favourite recipes on the blog too!

A fun day doing the Fun Five!

When I am working with a maths group, the rest of the class is allowed to do the 'Fun Five' - five fantastic activities that they help choose at the beginning of our Maths lesson.  Last week, I had finished with my groups, and I went to see what the kids had been up to.  They had been VERY busy creating some amazing things!  Here is a video...

Aren't they so very clever?

The three billy goats gruff

Today we read the three billy goats gruff for Fairy Tale Maths. We played a game with the goats. We had a dice that had 5 sad faces and 1 happy face. If we rolled a sad face, the goat was eaten by the troll. If we got a happy face, the goat made it across the bridge.
We decided that this dice was very unfair. Angela figured out that a dice with 3 happy faces and 3 sad faces was much fairer.

We decided that it was much easier playing with the fair dice. Jessie-Rose explained that no one in her team got across when they used the unfair dice!
Great work Room 12!
