Making Ten

We have had a terrific start to the term here in Room 12! On Thursday we explored the number 10! We are going to be learning all about the number ten and making lots of bundles of ten this term!

A fun day doing the Fun Five!

When I am working with a maths group, the rest of the class is allowed to do the 'Fun Five' - five fantastic activities that they help choose at the beginning of our Maths lesson.  Last week, I had finished with my groups, and I went to see what the kids had been up to.  They had been VERY busy creating some amazing things!  Here is a video...

The three billy goats gruff

Today we read the three billy goats gruff for Fairy Tale Maths. We played a game with the goats. We had a dice that had 5 sad faces and 1 happy face. If we rolled a sad face, the goat was eaten by the troll. If we got a happy face, the goat made it across the bridge.
We decided that this dice was very unfair. Angela figured out that a dice with 3 happy faces and 3 sad faces was much fairer.

We decided that it was much easier playing with the fair dice. Jessie-Rose explained that no one in her team got across when they used the unfair dice!

Welcome Diamond!

Room 12 welcomed a new class member this week! Diamond started school on Monday. We love having Diamond in our class!

Wednesday was the last day of our Photography unit, and so we set out to take some of our very best photos. The students had to remember all of the things we had learned about taking photos... - Choosing interesting things to photograph - Handling the camera carefully - Half press to focus, then a full press of the button to take a photo - Close ups for detail - Holding still when taking a photo They did a fantastic job! We made these super cute cupcakes for our letter of the week! Olly the Owl was very impressed!

Character Day! What fun!

Today was CharacterDay at school. It was so amazing! So many kids dressed up! Mrs Kitchen was Russell the Sheep, Mrs Newman was Grandma McGarvey and Mr Prchal was Bob the Builder!

Super writer of the day!

Cleveland just wrote a fabulous story about a creature called a 'friggle' that came to play with him! Well done Cleveland!

Run, run as fast as you can! Gingerbread Men!

On Friday for our Strand Maths, we read the story of the Gingerbread Man. We then decorated our big paper gingerbread men with the shapes that they like.

We had two visitors with us from Big Steps. It was so much fun to have them with us! We then decided to decorate the gingerbread men that we made the day before. But we had no decorations! Mrs Kitchen had enough money for five different decorations, so we did an investigation to decide what to buy. We each got to choose our favourite three.
Three kids got to go with Mrs Kitchen to Countdown to buy the decorations. We decided to get M and Ms, sprinkles, marshmallows, silver cachous and chocolate drops. Then we decorated the gingerbread men!

They were delicious!!!

Olly's Big Melbourne Adventure - the trip home

Hi Room 12!
What a long day it has been! Our plane took a long time to get to the airport to pick us up, so Mrs Kitchen and I had to go shopping. I was very well-behaved and only spent my money on these...

Who do you think they are for? We got home really late, so I am off to bed.
